    Question

My beater car now has 30 psi in #3 probably due to a burnt valve. It was burning a half quart per fill-up before that. I've thought about getting a used engine, but who knows if they're good or bad until after several hours of installation time.
I'm handy enough to change a water pump or install a S/C but never rebuilt an engine. If done correctly, I'd have a "new" engine. Are there rebuild kits out there that give all the gaskets, seals, rings, bearings etc.? How much can I expect to spend for parts and machine shop labor - hopefully I can use my pistons and just hone the cylinders. Is there any advantage to polishing my intake and head porting or is this a lot of effort for little gain in power.
    Any opinions?

I'm in the process of building my civic motor right now.

I've never done it before, but it doesn't look too hard. just need a few tools.

I think to assemble a short block, machine shops charge in the neighborhood of 350+ maybe less, I am unsure.

Honda has gasket sets, but I haven't gotten mine yet.

If theres something more you need email me. I can't say a whole lot, because I am just about to start.
